After carrying my baby for 9 stormy months I had my first glimpse of EC on November 22 year 2005. A miracle had happened, I saw for the first time my baby alive and kicking. EC was delivered through Cesarean Section due to complication that had set in at 9 months.
I was put on a fetal monitoring device for one week to keep an eye on my baby’s condition. A fetal distress warranted an immediate delivery of my baby, a bradycardia or in layman’s term a decline on my baby’s heartbeat was detected. It was a high risk pregnancy; I suffered from measles during my first trimester.
I was told by several doctors that it was possible for me to lose my baby because of high fever I had that time. But my baby was so strong she made it during those trying times. The doctors didn’t give me a false hope though, they frankly told me about the possible effects of measles on the fetus.
After agonizing with those possible effects of the virus on my unborn child, I just couldn’t believe that i would give birth to an almost perfect baby with no apparent physical deformity. I inspected her body parts upon seeing her again in NICU. There on a bassinet laid my baby with a complete set of fingers on both hands and toes on both feet, her eyes met mine it was love at first sight. She got my eyes and eyebrows.
But my baby didn’t come out unscathed; she stayed in the hospital for 15 days (9 days in NICU and 6 days in the recovery room) because of pneumonia. Then on her 2nd month birthday we had to bring her again to the hospital because of pertussis. I thought she wouldn’t make it that time but GOD is so great EC had recovered again.
